Celine Dion (Celine Marie Claudette Dion) was born March 30, 1968, in Quebec, Canada. French Canadian pop singer, known for her vocal prowess and her passionate showmanship, who achieved international superstardom in the 1990s.
Working primarily in the pop ballad tradition, she recorded numerous hit albums in both French and English and was the recipient of several prestigious awards. The youngest of 14 children, Dion began singing with her musically inclined family when she was five years old. At age 12 she came to the attention of impresario René Angélil and he launched her career with the album La Voix du bon Dieu (1981) married him in 1994. Invited to represent Switzerland at the Eurovision Song Contest in 1988, Dion won with her performance of ”Ne partez pas sans moi” / ”Do Not Leave Without Me”. By the end of the 1980s, she had recorded eight studio albums in French. During the 1990s, she achieved worldwide fame after releasing several best-selling English-language albums in music history.

Celine is the best-selling Canadian artist of all time and holds the title of the best-selling artist in Canada during the Nielsen SoundScan era (from 1996 to present). She ranks as the second best-selling female artist in the United States since Nielsen began tracking sales in 1991, with over 53.2 million albums sold. Guinness World Records recognizes her as the Top Selling Album Act in Europe with 33 million certified album sales since 1996. In 2003, she was honored by the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry for selling 50 million albums in Europe. Billboard acknowledges her as the sixth Greatest Billboard 200 female solo artist of all time and the eighth Greatest female solo artist in their chart history.
