Floyd Lee, also known as Theodore Williams, was an American blues musician born on August 20, 1933, in Lamar, Mississippi. He passed away on June 7, 2020.
Lee was known for his passionate performances of blues music, particularly in New York City’s subway stations, where he performed for almost 30 years.
Lee’s music career began in his teenage years, and he was influenced by his ‘father,’ Guitar Floyd, and neighbor Guitar Slim.
Floyd Leetraveled around the United States before settling in New York City in 1972. Lee was a founding member of Music Under New York (MUNY) and performed at various subway stations, clubs, and street festivals in the city.

Lee’s life and music were also the subject of the 2008 documentary film “Full Moon Lightnin’,” where he reconnected with his family in Mississippi after 60 years apart.
