Scorpions are a German hard rock band formed in Hanover in 1965 by guitarist Rudolf Schenker. The lineup from 1978 to 1992 was the most successful incarnation of the group and included Klaus Meine (vocals), Rudolf Schenker (rhythm guitar), Matthias Jabs (lead guitar), Francis Buchholz (bass), and Herman Rarebell (drums).

Throughout their career, Scorpions have explored various musical styles, ranging from hard rock and heavy metal to glam metal and soft rock. Here are some key points about the band: During the mid-1970s, with guitarist Uli Jon Roth (who replaced Schenker’s younger brother Michael), their music was defined as hard rock.

After Roth’s departure in 1978, Schenker and Meine took control of the group, leading to a shift in their sound. With the influence of producer Dieter Dierks, the Scorpions embraced melodic heavy metal mixed with lyrical “power rock ballads.”The album “Lovedrive” (1979) marked the beginning of this evolution, with subsequent albums continuing to develop their new sound.Over the next decade, the band achieved influence, critical acclaim, and significant commercial success.

Albums like “Animal Magnetism“, “Blackout“, and “Love at First Sting” garnered platinum awards in the United States.Their hit “Wind of Change” (from the album “Crazy World“) became a symbolic anthem for the political changes in Eastern Europe during the late 1980s and early 1990s, including the Fall of the Berlin Wall. Known for their 80’s rock anthem, “Rock You Like a Hurricane“, as well as other popular songs such as, “No One Like You“, “Send Me an Angel“, “Still Loving You“, You And I , Lorelei , Born To Touch Your Feelings , Maybe I Maybe You , When You Came Into My Life , Love Of My Life .

Scorpions have released thirteen consecutive studio albums that reached the top 10 in Germany, with one reaching No.1. They also had three consecutive albums in the top 10 of the Billboard 200 in the United States.

On January 24, 2010, after 45 years of performing, the band announced that they would be retiring after touring in support of their new album “Sting In The Tail”.
