LP (Laura Pergolizzi)

Laura Pergolizzi (born March 18, 1981), known professionally as LP, is an American singer, musician, and songwriter from New York.

With Italian‑American roots from Palermo and Naples, LP grew up in Huntington Station, Long Island, and began writing music as a teenager.

After losing their mother at sixteen, LP later honored her memory with the song “Forever for Now.” They adopted the name “LP” after moving to New York City in 2004.

LP’s career began with early collaborations and performances that caught the attention of producer David Lowery, leading to their debut album Heart‑Shaped Scar (2001).

Their second album, Suburban Sprawl & Alcohol (2004), showcased LP’s songwriting talent and included work with Linda Perry.

Although critically appreciated, it did not achieve mainstream success, but it marked the beginning of LP’s evolution into a respected songwriter.

Between 2006 and 2010, LP wrote songs for major artists including Rihanna (“Cheers (Drink to That)”), Christina Aguilera (“Beautiful People”), the Backstreet Boys (“Love Will Keep You Up All Night”), Heidi Montag, Erik Hassle, and others.

Their songwriting success led to deals with major labels and collaborations across pop, rock, and electronic music. LP moved to Los Angeles in 2010, where their career expanded further.

LP’s breakthrough as a solo artist came with “Into the Wild,” featured in a national Citibank campaign, followed by extensive touring and festival appearances.

In 2014, LP released Forever for Now, produced by Rob Cavallo, featuring singles like “Night Like This” and “Tokyo Sunrise.”

Global recognition arrived with the release of “Muddy Waters” and especially “Lost On You” (2015–2016), which became a worldwide hit and topped charts across Europe.

The accompanying EP Death Valley and the album Lost On You solidified LP’s status as a powerful indie‑pop voice known for emotional delivery, soaring vocals, and signature whistling.

From 2018 onward, LP continued releasing acclaimed music, including Heart to Mouth (2018) with singles “Girls Go Wild” and “Recovery,” and collaborations such as “N’oublie pas” with Mylène Farmer.

Their songs appeared in major TV series, commercials, and international media campaigns.

In 2021, LP released Churches, featuring “The One That You Love,” “How Low Can You Go,” “One Last Time,” and “Goodbye.”

They followed with Love Lines in 2023, a deeply personal album including “Golden,” “One Like You,” and “Long Goodbye.” In 2026, LP released “Shelly,” the lead single from their upcoming album Room 12, and “Love Is All I Have,” supported by the All Is Not Lost Tour, celebrating ten years of Lost On You.

LP has also appeared in fashion and media events, including Christian Louboutin’s Paris Fashion Week presentation in 2024.

In their personal life, LP identifies as gender‑neutral and uses they/them pronouns.

They have spoken openly about LGBTQ+ visibility and have had relationships with Tamzin Brown, Lauren Ruth Ward, Julieta Grajales, and currently Czech model Iveta Maurerová.

With seven studio albums, three EPs, and songwriting credits for global superstars, LP remains one of the most distinctive voices in modern indie pop — celebrated for authenticity, emotional depth, and a sound that resonates worldwide.
