Lara Fabian, born Lara Sophie Katy Crokaert on January 9, 1970, in Etterbeek, Belgium, of a Belgian father and a Sicilian mother. She lived the first part of her childhood in Sicily, Catania, (Sicilian mother) speaking Italian as her first language.
Lara was raised between Belgium and Italy, speaking Italian as her first language. She showed musical talent from a young age and studied at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels for ten years. She is a renowned singer and songwriter. She is known for her powerful voice and emotional performances.
Lara’s music career started in the 1980s, participating in various European competitions. In 1988, she represented Luxembourg at the Eurovision Song Contest, finishing fourth.
In 1991, she moved to Quebec, Canada, where she released her self-titled debut album. Her 1994 album “Carpe Diem” was a major success in Quebec.
Lara Fabian gained international fame with her albums “Pure” (1996) and “Nue” (2001), ‘Carpe Diem’, and ‘Live’, amongst others, with hit singles like ‘, ‘Le jour où tu partira’, ‘Tu t’en vas’, ‘Tu es mon autre’, and ‘J’y crois encore’. Lara Fabian has a rich discography with many popular songs.
Some of her most well-known tracks: “Je t’aime”, “Adagio”, “Je suis malade”, “Caruso”, “Immortelle”, “You’re Not From Here”. She also recreated the Canadian anthem in French and English renditions. She has sold over 20 million records worldwide and is one of the best-selling Belgian artists of all time.
She is famous for having given her voice to the character of ‘Esmeralda’, in the French remake of the film, ‘The Hunchback of Notre Dame’. Her song, ‘Deux ils, Deux elles’, is in particular, considered one of the most beautiful tracks she has ever produced. The recipient of prestigious honours like the ”Felix Awards”, ”World Music Awards”, and the ”IFPI Platinum Europe Awards”.
Lara is married to Gabriel Di Giorgio and has a daughter named Lou. She holds dual Belgian and Canadian citizenship.
